How we make money
Last updated 8 November 2026
Property Energy Guide is free to use. We're paid by the installers and assessors we introduce you to, and only when work goes ahead.
Who pays us
When you choose an installer or EPC assessor and they complete work for you, they pay us a referral fee. The amount is agreed with each partner in advance. You don't pay us anything, and we never ask for payment.
Does the fee affect which installers you see?
- We only list partners who hold the certification for the work: MCS for heat pumps, solar and batteries, and TrustMark or an equivalent scheme for insulation, glazing and other work. EPC assessors must be accredited.
- Where more than one partner covers your area, we show them in a rotating order. We don't rank them by the fee we receive.
- For EPC assessments, the fee is the same whatever rating your home gets.
Grants and government schemes
We're not part of any government scheme and we don't decide who qualifies. When we say you may qualify for a grant, that's based on the answers you gave us. The scheme or your installer makes the final check.
If we introduce you to a mortgage adviser
If you ask us to, we pass your details to Forto Finance, a mortgage adviser regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. One of the people behind Property Energy Guide is a director of Forto Finance, and we may be paid a fee if you take out a mortgage through them. We only do this when you tick the box asking us to, and you're free to use any adviser you like. Property Energy Guide doesn't give financial advice and isn't regulated by the FCA.
